The Black Student Union (BSU) is an affinity group under Cristo Rey Jesuit High School-Twin Cities, officially founded on November 7, 2018. This organization was created by students of African descent who felt underrepresented at the school and wanted to educate the community about the heritage of Pan-African culture. Their original and continued goal is to see their culture valued and promoted to the larger Cristo Rey community and beyond.
In the past BSU has hosted a number of events rooted in discussion and celebrations. These include but are not limited to the group’s annual African Heritage Night, Let’s Talk – Panel Discussions, Game Nights, Supporting Open Gym Community Nights, Movie Nights, Book Club, and decorating the school throughout Black History Month in February with items such as the Periodic Table of Influential African-Americans!
In choir, students enjoy learning new songs, building their singing skills, performing at mass and all-school events, earning service hours, having a ton of fun, gaining confidence in yourself, and building community across all four grade levels!
Students receive an investment account funded with $100 in fake money and make investments throughout the school year. You will read different finance-related articles throughout the year and compete against other high school students across the country to see who has the best performance!
The GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) was created in 2018. In this club we welcome all members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. One of the most important goals of our club is to provide a safe and supportive environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Club members use their time together to share common interests, be social, plan educational outreach through assembly presentations and Examens, and work to promote dialogue and inclusivity in our school community.
Our club members think Girls in STEM is: Inclusive. Fun. Captivating. A family. A group of girls that does problems based on science. We work in community. Independent Woman. Expand your knowledge of science. Magical. Joyful. Creative. A safe spot for just girls!
Girls in STEM is a safe space for girls to expand their knowledge of science topics through captivating STEM activities. We collaborate as a joyful community to uplift each other and foster strong and independent girls.
Guitar Club has been a place where students of varying skill levels come together to practice and grow in their musical abilities. Through collaboration and guidance from one another, our members have developed a strong sense of community that is truly remarkable to witness. At Guitar Club, we encourage students to freely play and practice, while also offering focused tasks that incorporate concepts from music theory and modern music reading for guitar players. From flamenco to blues, our techniques have origins that span the musical spectrum. Our members have been having a blast learning together and from each other as they progress in their individual musical journeys.
One of the key factors in our success has been the generous donations of guitars from our community. We started with just five guitars, but this pool has grown to well into double digits thanks to the donations from students, CRJ faculty and staff, and other adults who are part of our community. We're thrilled with the progress we've made so far and are excited to see where our passion for music takes us in the future.

The highest ranking individuals can win pickleball equipment, tacos, or a jar of pickles!
The Poetry Club draws on the creative writing that Cristo Rey students do on their own and in their English Language Arts classrooms to hold a once-a-year school Poetry Slam. The Slam is part of Twin Cities spoken word organization, TruArtSpeaks’ “Be Heard” series, and serves as a qualifier for the competition to be part of the Be Heard cohort, “six teen poets with Minnesota addresses to represent youth voice through public performance, commissioned works, panel discussions, and more while simultaneously receiving mentorship in writing, performance, and publication from some of Minnesota’s premiere spoken word artists.” Multiple Cristo Rey Poetry Club alums have qualified for and earned the right to be part of this cohort.
