when I first applied a Cristo Rey I didn't get accepted but I wanted the same experience as my sister had so I improve my grades I reapplied and I accepted as a sophomore. Cristo Rey helped me discover this deep passion I have for serving others and now I'm attending the University of Saint Thomas on a full ride scholarship where I'm able to continue to serve others by being a student ambassador and advancing conversation on diversity and inclusion I've always loved performing, especially singing but other than my love for the Arts I didn't really feel like I had a firm direction. When I attended Cristo Rey I was immersed in diversity for the very first time I created friendships that cross racial lines the culture at Cristo Rey has giving me empathy and to be more aware of the social justice issues that I'm into today. Now I'm at Augsburg College studying secondary education, history and minoring in theater in hopes to become a high school social studies teacher growing up my faith taught me the importance of serving others but I didn't really know how to put that into action At Cristo Rey I was motivated to turn serving others into a lifestyle soon I'll be graduating from Augsburg College with a degree in sociology and then I'll be a program manager for a company that serves adult disabilities. At Cristo Rey, I learned that I can combine my faith and love for science now I'm at the University of Minnesota majoring in biology society and environment and planning for medical school. The teachers at Cristo Rey taught me that my limitations are only set by myself and to overcome them required effort and most importantly God. I have always been interested in the atmosphere and the weather but it was my physics and calculus teacher at Cristo Rey who really encouraged me to pursue a stem major even after I graduated he reached out to support me with my academics I believe that kind of relationship between a student and the teacher is unique I'm currently at Saint Thomas studying environmental science. At Cristo Rey I was given the opportunity through the corporate work-study program to work at Lazard Middle Market this was the first time I was ever excited about school at Lazard I've learned that Finance can help small businesses grow now I'm on the Dean's List at Augsburg College from pursuing my career in finance I don't think any other school could have offered me the career preparation that Cristo Rey did. I worked in many different companies including Medtronic and I got connected with mentors through the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Now I am at the University of Minnesota studying mechanical engineering. Cristo Rey wasn't just school for me it gave me a network of professionals that supported and inspired me and now I plan to do the same for other women. When I found my report card in 10th Grade knew I was struggling I realized I might not have a pathway to college I decided to make a big change my and transfer to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School where they truly cared about me challenged me and never left me behind thanks to them I'm now at the University of St. Thomas studying criminal justice and sociology I am going to be an advocate for those in abusive situations I'm looking forward serving others. I hope to encourage my students the way Cristo Rey has done for me I'm studying justice and peace studies so I can become a voice for the voiceless. I hope to get my Master's Degree to help fight against climate change
