OCTOBER 18, 2021
General Colin Powell passed away the morning of October 18, 2021. The world knows General Colin Powell as a great military hero and statesman, but we were fortunate to also know him as a friend. He was proud to lend his name to our beautiful building as this is a place where students are able to develop their talent and leadership skills. He also mentored Cristo Rey graduates at Georgetown University.
Colin Powell was the keynote speaker at the grand opening ceremony of our building and visited anytime he was in the Twin Cities. He was drawn to students, especially to learn their story, dreams and the steps they were taking to achieve their dreams. He really believed in the goodness of people.
As we walk past the portrait of General Colin Powell in our building today and in the days to come, we pray for him, his wife Alma and their three children. May we follow his example to work hard, see the goodness in others and persevere to achieve our dreams.
