Remembering Volunteer Tom Kilkelly

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Tom Killkelly, a Cristo Rey Jesuit Volunteer through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, passed away on Tuesday, July 6.

Tom was literally and figuratively an answer to our prayers when he began volunteering in 2013. He had taught for over 30 years at St. Thomas Academy and Wayzata High School and wanted to mentor math teachers. Our entire math faculty were very eager and talented, but also very new to the profession. Tom quickly built rapport with our faculty through his respectful nature, knowledge, and passion for teaching and mathematics. Mr. Killkelly also was soon tutoring students at all hours of the day so that they too had the opportunity to love the wonders of mathematics.

In 2017, we honored Tom with our first ever St. Kateri Tekakwitha Award. This award is presented to community members who, like St. Kateri, improve the community through hard work, skill and determination.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 S 8th St. and can be watched live at https://www.youtube.com/user/SaintOlafChurch/live. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Tom’s ashes will be scattered at a later date. Memorials preferred to St. Olaf Catholic Church or Cristo Rey High School.

We are grateful for the love Tom shared with our community and he will live on in our hearts and actions. May he rest in peace.
