We know that nothing can replace the life of George Floyd. We write this naming the trauma, pain, injustice and fear that many members of our community feel and experience.
Justice has been served today, although we acknowledge that this is not the end of this journey.
After seeing and feeling the pain of our city, we welcome this verdict as a step towards healing and addressing the inequities of Minneapolis. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School stands in solidarity with our community and with our families with each step of this trial, the trials of the three additional officers and the trial for the officer involved with the killing of Daunte Wright. We are here. Our school’s mission to correct systemic injustice will continue.
Students and Alumni: If you want to process this verdict as a community via a listening and conversation session, please check your school email or alumni groups for the link to join us at 7pm tonight or tomorrow at 3pm.
Please know that you are made in the image of God and that we love and support your humanity and your identity always. Our prayers continue for both our Cristo Rey Jesuit community and our greater Minnesota community to our God of love and justice.
