Tom Killkelly, a Cristo Rey Jesuit Volunteer through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, passed away on Tuesday, July 6. Tom was literally and figuratively an answer to our prayers when he began tutoring students in math in 2013.
The Resilience Fund will ensure Cristo Rey's ability to operate, fulfilling its mission of providing a high caliber college-preparatory education and workplace experience to students from from communities underrepresented in higher education, and families for which economic reality restricts their access to a quality college- and career-preparatory education.
Each local Cristo Rey school's college counseling team, along with school leaders, are selecting recipients, named Deloitte Foundation Scholars, who have been admitted to college and intend to pursue majors in accounting, computer science, and/or data analytics. In addition to demonstrating financial need, Deloitte Foundation Scholars must demonstrate academic and leadership excellence.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic and online learning, Yanelis Camacho '21 and her classmates were able to maintain Cristo Rey’s unbroken success streak: For the 11th year in a row, 100 percent of the class earned acceptance to college.
Ordinarily volunteers, donors, CWSP partners and friends of Cristo Rey Jesuit are welcome to celebrate our graduates. However, due to COVID-19, there was limited capacity and priority seating was reserved for parents and families of the Class of 2021.
