Our Curriculum:

  • The school employs a rigorous academic curriculum and educational strategies specifically designed to prepare inner-city youth for university, college, or other post-secondary education.
  • Teaching strategies include student advisories, project based learning, individualized learning plans, and special concentration on reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Student grading is standard's based. The purpose of standards-based grading is to report what students know and are able to do. Passing a class is not tied to the completion of homework. It is based on the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of the standards.

Our Work-Study Program:

  • All students are trained for entry-level clerical positions and participate in the Hire4Ed work-study program, which underwrites more than half of the total cost of education while exposing the student to a corporate work environment and positive influences of the supervising professionals.
  • Students receive a college prep education while acquiring excellent work experience and marketable job skills by working five full week days per month at participating businesses.

Our Community:

  • Cristo Rey Jesuit High School was founded in partnership with the Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation,
    which has a long history of service to the families of Minneapolis’ Phillips neighborhood.
  • The high school and Urban Ventures share the new 160,000 square-foot Colin Powell Leadership Center constructed by Ryan Companies US at East 29th Street and 4th Avenue in Minneapolis

Our Results:

  • 100% of Cristo Rey Network graduates accepted to a 2 or 4 year college.
  • As of April 2011, 80% of our first ever graduating class have been accepted to college. In comparison, the national rate for low income students graduating from high school and going to college is only 51%.  
  • In their Hire4Ed work study, corporate supervisors rated our students’ performance very high in three important areas, Value of Job Performed, Accuracy of Work and Enthusiasm and Motivation.  Our students are meeting high expectations and delivering value to our clients.
